Don't shake the baby

One shake is all it takes to kill a baby

Never, ever, shake the baby; ever

The baby's crying; you've got a splitting headache. Baby won't go to sleep; he's driving you crazy! The noise is too much. You just want them to stop. You pick the baby up and rock them hoping they'll quiet down. You just want to shake the crying out of them; don't.

A baby's brain has the consistency of Jell-O. A single shake impacts the baby's brain against the side of their skull causing a bruise and bleed. A shake may tear the lining of the skull, called the Dura and again, a bleed. A hard shake causes a bruise front and back (what moves one way, moves the other) and a bleed. Blood is poisonous to the brain. The result; a severely brain-damaged, or dead, baby.

Shaking causes bruising, tearing and bleeding

Don't shake the baby. Ever.
