Child AbuseWatch Receives The 2009 Junny Award
Child AbuseWatch is honored to receive the 2009 Junny Award from Protect Our Children. We received the award in recognition of our 2008 campaign against Hewlett Packard. In the fall of 2008 Child AbuseWatch asked Hewlett Packard to remove the sound track to their ‘Touch Smart” TV commercial. The music “Do you wanna touch,’ was a 1970s hit by British pedophile and former pop-star Garry Glitter; performed by Joan Jett.
Despite writing to HP’s CEO,
Mark Hurd, and HP's board of directors, informing them of
the problem no response was received and the ad continued to
be aired. Child AbuseWatch issued a press release
highlighting our concern. The release was picked up by over
300 print media outlets worldwide in addition to broadcast
news. HP quickly pulled the ad denying Glitter a reported
$140,000 in royalties. |
